PA DEP Well Regulations
Pennsylvania water wells are regulated by PA DEP under the Water Well Drillers License Act. Drillers must be licensed. A Well Completion Report (Form 3150-FM-WSWM0043) must be filed within 30 days. Minimum 10-foot surface seal required. Pitless adapter required for frost protection.
Water Quality in PA
PA well water varies widely. Northeastern PA has naturally occurring methane in some areas. Southeast limestone areas may have hard water and agricultural nitrates. Coal country in southwestern PA can have iron and manganese issues. Test for coliform, nitrates, pH, hardness, metals, and radon (PA has elevated radon in many areas).
